Julian brings with him a wealth of experience of living in city and urban contexts, remarkable enough considering that he is a hill farmer's son from Mid Wales. He served in two ex mining communities in Nottinghamshire and Glamorganshire, followed by two positions, both of incumbent status, in central London, the first at St Marylebone, where there is an emphasis on the healing ministry, and then at St Giles in the Fields, where he  spent much time building bridges into the communities and re-imagining the mission of the church, in a context of considerable social dislocation. During his eight years in London he also held four chaplaincies at St Marylebone School, the Royal Academy of Music, Regent's College and the College of Law, whose chaplaincy he initiated.
He was ordained in Southwell Minster in 1994, after spending some time in the Far East. Before embarking upon ordination training, he worked at the Third World Development Centre of Oxford University on a programme examining the forced migration of peoples, and in his spare time acted as a relief warden at a hostel for overseas students where some 180 nationalities were represented.
At Oxford, as a member of the Faculty of Modern History, he gave tutorials for the final honour school, and was also a College Lecturer at Brasenose and Junior Dean at Jesus College. During several summer vacations he lived in an ecumenical community on the continent.
He has wide interests, loves the outdoors and exploring different cultures and languages. He promises to pray for Southampton City. He loves nothing more than meeting different people, listening to their stories and sharing with them the love of Christ.

I came to Southampton in 2002, moving from Bicester in Oxfordshire. We moved here for my wife to take up a post at the University of Southampton. Our daughter Miriam says the best thing about Southampton is the shopping!

I have been a priest since 1984. Before that, I studied International Politics at Warwick University and then worked in residential childcare in south London (God’s own country). I studied Theology at Cuddesdon, Oxford, then was curate in Camberwell,(south London again). I moved to become Chaplain to Brighton University in 1988, where I met Rona… We married in 1991 and moved to Bicester, where Rona worked in midwifery research at Oxford University, and where Miriam was born.
For 10 years in Bicester I was Chaplain to Bullingdon Prison, a new, large, adult prison, and also Team Vicar in the Bicester Team Ministry. I have continued some of these past connections as Chaplain to Southampton City College, Governor at St Mary’s C of E School in our parish, and some work at Winchester Prison. So that’s what I do, but what makes me tick?

My faith is the centre of my life, but not in a way that makes it separate from everything else. We discover the love of God and experience the presence of Jesus in and through every aspect of our day-to-day lives. So my work as a priest is helping people to recognise and experience the love of God where they are. We don’t bring God to others: God is already here, in this city, this community, in your life today.

Worship and prayer are essential foundations in following Jesus. And I’ve learned a great deal from Franciscan spirituality, linking prayer and action as essential for each other. We want St Mary’s to be lively, happy and open. Our worship at St Mary’s is a mixture of traditional and contemporary, offering moments of peace, beauty, nurture and also the challenge of the Gospel. We don’t come to church just to make ourselves feel a bit happier: we come to serve God and to serve others.

I want St Mary’s to be a place of prayer and a community of action.

So come and join us at St Mary’s. Experience the love of God, and discover God’s purpose for you today.

Scunthorpe-born Tim is a part-time member of the City Centre Team with particular responsibility for St Michael's Church. The remainder of Tim's week is spent with the BBC where he is the producer and presenter of religious programmes for BBC Radio Solent where you can join him on Sunday mornings from 6am until 9am (on 96.1FM) before the bike ride home - a bowl of porridge - and into Church for a 10.30 kick off at St Michael's or with one of the other city centre congregations.

After studying chemistry at the University of London's Royal Holloway College in the early 1970s, Tim went on to train as a minister in Durham and then spent several years as a part time church history research student at King's College London.

Married to Ruth since 1975, Tim believes that religion is not just about musty churches and misery but should reflect life in all its fullness.

Phil was trained as a Baptist Minister at Spurgeon's College, London and became minister of Kingsland Baptist Church from 1979 - 1993, which met in the former Parish Hall. He left full time ministry in 1993 and continued living in the Newtown-Nicholstown area with his wife Pam, whilst maintaining his day job with Hampshire County Council. He is Governor Services Co-ordinator, with responsibility for 189 school governing bodies in the west of Hampshire. His work in the Parish is on a voluntary basis and mainly restricted to weekends.

Phil and Pam joined the City Centre Parish in early 1999. During the next few years his leadership role developed, mainly in the St Matthew's congregation which also met at the Parish Hall.

Phil was ordained deacon at St Mary's Church in October 2003, and ordained priest at Winchester Cathedral in July 2004.
